Radar Course Information Flyer

The Basic RADAR course offered at Seafood & Maritime Industries Training Ltd. is delivered full-time over 3 days. It is recommended that the student has knowledge of Coastal Navigation prior to this short course.

• Functions and Adjustments
• Plotting & Collision Avoidance

Assessment includes:

2 hours written examination
Practical and oral examination

At the end of the course, the candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of fundamentals of radar and ability in the operation and use of radar, and in the interpretation and analysis of information obtained from the equipment, including:

• Factors affecting performance and accuracy;
• Setting up and maintaining displays;
• Detection of misrepresentation of information, false echoes, sea return, etc.;
• Range and bearing;
• Identification of critical echoes;
• Application of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea,  1972;
• Basic understanding of use of radar for navigation and collision avoidance.
