MAR20313 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations - (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)

Training Package for MAR20313 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)

This qualification requires a successful outcome of 12 core units of competency.  You will need to apply for sea time before  commencing the course.  The AMSA Guidance Notice Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (NC) is attached to the Coxswain Grade 1 Course Information Flyer.

Sea service will be assessed using the National Standard for Commercial Vessels Part D, Crew Competencies.  A copy of this document is available on AMSA's website www.nationalsystem.amsa.gov.au/seafarer.

You must then apply to the NT Marine Safety Branch (AMSA) in Darwin who will assess your sea time.

SMIT offers the Shipboard Safety Skill Set short course which is a compulsory component of the Coxswain qualification. It contains 4 of the 12 mandatory units. SMIT offers the Survive at Sea component of the Shipboard Safety Skill Set, but the Fire Warden training must be completed with an accredited Fire Fighting Training Organisation.

Prerequisites include a First Aid Certificate and a radio licence. SMIT offers a two day radio course, delivered at the beginning of the Coxswain Grade 1 course.

After successful completion of the course at SMIT, and the issue of the Certificate of Attainment, students are required to complete an Application for Certificate of Competency with the Marine Safety Branch NT (AMSA). The final decision on issue of a certificate, restriction or endorsement is made by the National Regulator or the Delegate of the National Regulator
